Tuesday, January 7

This morning students worked on the second paragraph in their winter break writing.  They didn't have much time so we'll continue this work tomorrow.  In math, students wrote a short quiz on addition.  They've been working for a couple weeks on addition and I felt like I needed a check in on their understanding.  I'm sending the quiz home so you can see how your child is doing but also because I feel that they just need a little extra practice or are missing a small point (like remembering to carry the "one").  Some students will move on and have moved on to solving addition word problems, students who need a little extra time and help will work with me.  You'll notice the first 3 math questions are without re-grouping (carrying) and the last 3 are with re-grouping.

In science, each student was given a magnet and sent to check out the school to see what was magnetic and what was not. Check out our "findings" below.  We also talked about how magnets are used in real life, like MRI's, compasses, fridges, phones and other places.  Students had gymnastics with M. Trevor. Room 8 will visit the library tomorrow and we'll have our parent volunteers in to help us learn about magnets :)
