Monday, November 4

We'll be visiting the library tomorrow so please send back any library books you may have at home.  I'm sending home some math from students' duotangs that we no longer need.  We'll be focusing on addition and place value in math.  Students enjoyed music with Mme. Zdrill this morning and in math we talked about different strategies they would use to solve the equation 12+13.  After students explained their strategies, students wrote a pre-test on addition.  This information will help direct my teaching as to where I need to begin.  For example do students still need manipulatives to compute addition questions? Do they know their addition facts to 10? To 20?  Can they add with re-grouping?  Can they solve an addition word problem?  This pre-test doesn't count towards their marks or report card and only serves to inform me as to where to begin.  I'll have a look at this pre-test over the next couple of days and it will direct my math teaching/lessons next week.  This afternoon, students reviewed "plus chaud/friod que" and we got some fresh air outside.

Our math problem and some strategies students used to solve the equation.
